Prof. Günter Heinritz
Günter Heinritz is Professor emeritus at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), München. He has been Professor of Geography at the Department of Geo- and Environmental Sciences at the LMU München from 2002 – 2006 and Director of the Geographical Institute at the Technische Universität München from 1975 – 2002. His research interests are in the field of social and urban geography with a focus on retail geography, especially the structural change in retailing. He is the author of key texts related to the geography of retail and founder of the series ‘Geographische Handelsforschung’ (Geographical retail research). In the last 30 years, he has acted as chairman in numerous German Geography associations: he has been President of the German Society of Geography (DGfG) from 1993 to 1997 and Chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Association of Geographers at German Universities (VGDH) from 2003 to 2005 as well as Chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL) from 1998 to 2005.
