Jane Lutz is the Director of Graduate Studies and a lecturer in the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (CURS) where she is involved in research, teaching and consultancy.  Her main interests are analysis of the cultural sector’s contribution to social cohesion, social inclusion and economic development and the critical examination of place-marketing.  Her understanding of these issues has been developed through academic research and also involvement with a range of practical projects.  She has undertaken research and consultancy for national and local government and regional agencies and was seconded from the university to become Research Director of the team bidding for Birmingham to become European Capital of Culture.  She is Programme Director for the MSc in Urban Regeneration Research and Policy and Convenor of two postgraduate modules: Place Marketing, and Culture and Tourism in Urban and Regional Development.  She has monitored and supervised PhD theses on: gender and tourism employment; popular music and regeneration; funding for the creative industries; tourism destination marketing: sustainable urban tourism and heritage tourism.  Jane also sits on the board of SAMPAD, a leading South Asian Arts organisation.
